Race Engineering Communications

New module confirmed for 15 February 2025!

Communication is one of the key skills of any race engineer. You must learn how to effectively communicate to others in your team and the racing driver, in order to achieve a successful result. An understanding of the pre, during and post race protocols is essential for anyone looking to excel in motorsport. Develop your skills and knowledge with the guidance from experienced race engineers during this online training module.

Topics - 15 February:

Pre-Event Communication

  • Discover how race engineers communicate decisions to the race team before a race takes place

  • How do race engineers communicate pre-race with the driver, including track walks and strategy plans

During the Race – including Radio Communications

  • Radio communications are vital for many Championships, but this skill is rarely taught. You will be guided through scenarios with a race engineer to help you understand the driver-to-engineer relationship.

  • You will discover how race engineers manage difficult and unexpected situations, such as dealing with emotional drivers, sudden changes in weather and unexpected mechanical failures.

  • How to communicate in Championships where radio is not available, including use of pitboards

Post-Event debrief

  • Discover how to communicate with the team and driver about what worked for the race, and what can be improved on.

  • Find out how teams put a plan into place to include how to take these learnings and communicate this to the wider team for the next race/year.

Racing Drivers’ Perspective

  • Listen to the Racing Drivers’ perspective, while Callum shares his experience and thoughts on racing and how drivers’ digest all this information throughout a race weekend
